Foreign Languages and Literatures
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures fosters international awareness and understanding that is critical to the social and economic development of our state and nation.
History
The Department of History studies and teaches about change over time and its causation. If we understand the past, we are better prepared for the future.
Interdisciplinary Studies
The Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) Program integrates concepts, theories, and tools from two or more disciplines to address complex issues and broad themes that require a multi-tiered approach.
Philosophy and Religious Studies
Philosophy and Religious Studies students gain solid foundations for professional training in such fields as law, medicine, and management; for further study in their disciplines; and for the world of work.
Psychology
The Department of Psychology produces and disseminates knowledge about the mind and its relation to behavior and the brain.
Public and International Affairs
The School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) provides practical knowledge about government, politics, policy, and international affairs. Our alums are leaders in the public and nonprofit sectors.
Social Work
The Department of Social Work prepares community-minded, culturally-sensitive professional social workers who have the skills, knowledge, and values to advance the dignity of all people.
Sociology and Anthropology
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is a diverse community of scholars. We teach students the principles and techniques for understanding group behavior, and conduct research to help solve real-world problems.

Wednesday May 23, 2012Forging a Sustainable Path
For some students, college is a fairly straightforward path: Choose a major you enjoy, take the required courses and eventually graduate. For others, such as Ariel Fugate, the road is full of twists and turns. Fugate, a Caldwell Fellow, forged a path that took her from zoology through wildlife and fisheries and agriculture, into a close examination of sociology, and finally, to a major she designed herself in the college's interdisciplinary studies program.

A Passion for Caring
After Kristin Replogle began serving on the college's Institute for Nonprofits advisory board, she decided to make a gift to support nonprofit studies minors participate in internships. "Once I met the students in the program, I knew this was the perfect place for me to give back," she says.
