Experiential learning, in which students apply classroom theories to real-world experiences, is the hallmark of the innovative business school learning environment. With a fully engaged support network, research labs equipped with the latest technology and opportunities for hands-on learning, our students gain competitive skills while also gaining all-important confidence.

Through relevant seminar programs, assistance for entrepreneurs and small businesses, executive education programs, and conferences and seminars where international experts stimulate dialogue and inspire positive action, the college fulfills its mission to develop leaders — both on campus and throughout the community.

Centers and Institutes

Arthur M. Spiro Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership
The mission of the Arthur M. Spiro Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership is to support educational, research and outreach programs that promote entrepreneurial activity and economic development of the region, state and nation. The focus is on wealth creation through entrepreneurial activity.

BB&T Center for Education and Economic Policy Studies
The BB&T Center for Economic Education and Policy Studies helps people better understand markets in practical and ethical terms.

Center for China Studies
Formed in 2007, the Center for China Studies promotes a better understanding of the U.S.-China relationship, China’s economic development and its impact on the world. The center sponsors and organizes a variety of programs, including a speaker series that brings various experts on China to the Upstate and campus. The center also assists in arranging scholarships and study-abroad programs to provide students with opportunities to study at top Chinese universities.

Center for Corporate Learning
Clemson University’s Center for Corporate Learning brings the University into the workplace and has been a provider of professional education and customized training programs for business, education and industry for more than 50 years. The Center for Corporate Learning brings together Clemson’s expert instructors and thought leaders, along with industry experts from across the nation to create dynamic learning environments for executive education and professional development. The center is dedicated to delivering job-specific solutions for today’s complex business world.

Center for Economic Research on the Family
Clemson’s Center for Economic Research on the Family (CERF) aims to provide timely policy relevant research for scholars and policy makers at the local, state, national, and international level. Based in the Department of Economics, it draws on the research strengths and interests of faculty and students in departments throughout the college as other scholars in other colleges at Clemson. Researchers at the Center blend contemporary and historical perspectives with innovative theoretical modeling and cutting edge empirical analyses of the macroeconomic and microeconomic factors that affect the long run well-being of individuals and societies throughout the world.

Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism
Founded in the fall of 2005 with a generous grant from the BB&T Charitable Foundation, the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism is dedicated to exploring the moral, legal, constitutional, political and economic foundations of capitalism. The Clemson Institute is particularly devoted to fostering a serious examination of a free society.

Information Economy Project
The Information Economy Project (IEP) is where law & economics meet telecommunications policy. The information economy is central to the health of the global economy, invokes fundamental free speech issues, and determines how our basic social and economic institutions — including the emerging Internet and disruptive wireless markets — are shaped. The IEP supports academic research, policy analysis, and popular commentary using economic theory and empirical methods to evaluate the challenges facing policy makers, judges and entrepreneurs throughout the sector.

Institute for Research in Human Factors and Ergonomics
At Clemson University, human factors and ergonomics faculty conduct research into human behavior and performance in a variety of contexts and settings including health care delivery environments, automobiles and home settings, in interactions with technology in general and computers in particular, and in high stress conditions such as military combat and other high risk environments.

Small Business Development Center
The Clemson Regional Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers personal guidance and assistance to small business owners and entrepreneurs in Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Oconee, Pickens, Abbeville, Edgefield, Saluda, Greenwood, Laurens and McCormick counties. Through personal and confidential consultation, SBDC representatives provide one-on-one management and technical assistance to small business owners who wish to start, grow or maintain their businesses. The SBDC offers marketing analysis, business plan preparation, financial feasibility studies and other valuable resources to the entrepreneur at little to no cost.

The SC SBDC’s are a consortium of four universities, whose 17 regional/area centers are located throughout the state. As part of the College of Business Science at Clemson University, the Clemson Regional SBDC is located at 1 North Main St in downtown Greenville.

Social Analytics Institute
The Social Analytics Institute (SAI) conducts funded research that examines social and computing challenges sparked by the emergence of new social technologies for individuals, organizations, and society. SAI projects generally involve gleaning insight from collecting, aggregating, analyzing and visualizing very large datasets drawn from social technologies (e.g., Facebook, Twitter etc.) as well as traditional sources (e.g., health, economic and census data). To do so, SAI involves faculty and staff from Behavioral, Business, Health, Humanities and Computing disciplines. SAI seeks to develop theories, models and tools that enable inquiry of social and business problems found in the global information economy.

The Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics
The Sonoco Institute was created to exploit the synergies that exist between the graphic communications and packaging science departments. It is the only university program in the country with this one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary approach to packaging as a core competency. The Sonoco Institute attracts economic development not only to South Carolina, but to the nation as a whole; and recruits, hires and maintains the top researchers in the world related to packaging design and graphics.

Academic Advising Center
The Academic Advising Center creates and administers a network of high-quality informational, guidance and support services that facilitate the optimal intellectual and personal development of our students. The center’s mission reflects the core values of both Clemson University and the college by providing a student-oriented infrastructure of services that foster enhanced student academic, scholarship and leadership experiences.

Office of Student Enrichment
The Office of Student Enrichment (OSE) helps students become effective leaders, entrepreneurs and globally competitive professionals through programs that enhance their leadership capabilities and career-readiness. Through OSE, students receive assistance with professional development and careers; finding internships; resume review, full-time job search advice and interviewing skills; leadership opportunities; and study abroad information.

Labs for Student Learning

Clemson Trading Room
The Clemson Trading Room offers students an opportunity to gain real-time trading experience using sophisticated technology. Undergraduates use the Trading Room for projects ranging from corporate finance to portfolio management.

Manufacturing Management Lab
The Manufacturing Management Laboratory promotes active learning involving modern principles of manufacturing management, leading-edge enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, team work and leadership.

Sales Lab
The Sales Lab is a training ground for students seeking guidance on how to enhance their communication skills, hone their interviewing techniques, and prepare for a career in sales.

Social Media Listening Center
The Social Media Listening Center, within the Social Analytics Institute, allows students and faculty to conduct funded research that examines social and computing challenges sparked by the emergence of new social technologies for individuals, organizations, and society.
