An internship is an ideal way for a Clemson student to gain entry-level job experience and training, and build relationships necessary to better prepare for a career path. Whether within the U.S. or in another country, an internship is an opportunity for hands-on education and networking within top companies and organizations and creates a means for a student to determine if his chosen field is the best fit for his future career. It is never too early to do an internship and students should consider doing more than one.
Students aren’t the only ones who benefit from internships. Employers who hire interns are able to gain top talent and groom potential employees while providing them a hands-on, true-to-life working experience.
CBBS currently offers domestic and international internships to CBBS students.
These internships can be categorized in one of three ways:
Internships offer students the opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a practical workplace setting. These work opportunities provide students with exposure to an occupation, industry or career field he or she may be considering. These positions are also an excellent way to jump-start the full-time career search. Internships are available during the fall, spring and summer semesters and can be paid, volunteer or completed for academic credit depending on the structure of the company’s program.
CBBS is committed to helping our students succeed. In an effort to foster the success of our students, internships have been identified as a means to help students compete in today’s job market. The Office of Student Enrichment has partnered with ClemsonJobLink to promote internship opportunities to students. A number of opportunities from CBBS preferred employers are posted in ClemsonJobLink and can be found by conducting a keyword search for CBBS. Students can also search for opportunities based on major, industry, and/or geographic location.
An internship can be as valuable to an employer as it can be to the student. It is an excellent chance to recruit, work with, and screen potential full-time employees. Internships can add value to a company’s brand by heightening the organization’s visibility on campus and enhancing its image throughout a community.

CBBS wants to ensure our students are not only getting the best internship experiences, but being fairly compensated for their work. When hiring an intern, please consider the Department of Labor’s Fair Labor Standard Act to determine whether an intern should be paid. Fact Sheet #71: Internship Programs Under The Fair Labor Standards Act, authored by the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division is a useful resource to determine if your organization is passing the test for unpaid interns.
