Co-Op Courses
Cleveland State is committed to offering a quality cooperative education experience. Approximately 300 students participate fall and spring semesters in independent study co-op courses:
Cooperative education courses are offered in an independent study format so that are convenient courses for students who already have a lot of other obligations (work, family, and college). They are an excellent option for students seeking an elective and provide opportunities for real-world work experience.
CPE 1011—Job Search Skills (1 credit hour)
Receive assistance in developing a resume portfolio, interviewing skills, and an individual job search strategy.
CPE 1012—Succeeding on the Job (1 credit hour)
Developing professional skills including communication, time management, problem solving, teamwork and customer service skills.
CPE 2000—Workforce Development (3 credit hours)
Students working in jobs not related to their college major can enroll in workforce development for one semester. Students learn about transitional work skills such as teamwork, leadership, responsibility and work ethics. Students develop learning objectives with their employers and work 150 hours for the semester. A 2-credit hour version (CPE 1015) of this course is also available with students working 75 hours for the semester.
CPE 1010, 1020, 2010 & 2020—Cooperative Education I, II, III & IV
(3 credit hours each)
Students work in traditional cooperative education placements related to their college major. Students develop learning objectives with their employers and work 150 hours for the semester. These courses can be taken for four semesters. Students who need assistance in locating a co-op placement need to schedule an appointment with the cooperative education director.
CPE 2100 Co-op/Internship Experience—2 credit hours
Professional development through on-the-job experience in the student’s major area of study. The course requires a minimum of 100 hours of supervised employment or volunteer experience.
