University of Tennessee - Cleveland State Community College

Articulation of Agreement

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Cleveland State Community College have entered into a partnership that promotes student transfer and program articulation.  Specifically, the features of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga/Cleveland State Community College alliance will contribute to a “seamless” transfer of associate degree course credit to bachelor degree requirements.  The agreement between UTC and CSCC is to be revisited every five years, with the institutions conducting an annual review of each articulated program.

The program agreements in this document lead to the awarding of the associate degree by CSCC and the baccalaureate degree by UTC.  All other academic regulations of the major, degree, college/school and university standards (such as grade point average and retention requirements) must be satisfied.  Students in articulated programs with UTC will not be expected to meet any additional (or fewer) requirements than native  UTC students.

The intent of the agreement is to encourage CSCC students to complete an associate degree under the terms of the agreement prior to transfer to UTC.  If students have completed 60 hours and are awarded an associate degree, they will be granted junior year status upon entering UTC.

Students who complete the forty-one (41) credits of TBR-approved general education courses will have fulfilled the general education requirements at UTC including department general education requirements not identified as major or related course requirements.

UTC will apply student credit hours toward the appropriate degree.  Credits will be applied as appropriate, first toward UTC’s general education and cross-curricular requirements, then to requirements for the student’s chosen academic major and minor.  Remaining transfer credits that are not applicable to those categories will be used as electives.

Because the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree generally is not designed for transfer credit, UTC does not assure transfer of all the credits for the AAS degree.  However, it will make all reasonable efforts to provide students transferring with the AAS degree with a flexible degree plan.

No transfer credit will be accepted without official transcripts.

Students transferring at least 60 hours must have a cumulative grade point average equivalent to a “C”.

Courses must not duplicate other courses for which credit has been awarded.

Credits for remedial or pre-college level courses are not accepted as transfer courses.

UTC will, on request, review selected associate degrees at CSCC and compare major requirements of the two institutions.  The comparison may be used to encourage students to take appropriate and transferable courses so as to avoid additional lower-level requirements after their transfer to UTC.
