Human Services/Social Work Program

The Human Services/Social Work Option Program at Cleveland State Community College is designed for the individual who is interested in pursuing a career in the helping profession.  The curricula is based on providing foundation courses to obtain a BSW or MSSW degree.  The courses are essential in providing the student with general knowledge about the helping profession and allows the student to learn about the many career choices in the field of social work and human services.

Social work is the profession that embodies helping people in need.  Social Workers may be employed in counseling individuals, families, and groups who are in crisis (i.e., mental health, domestic violence, grief, abuse, chemical dependency) or they may assist people in linking them with available resources to meet their needs.  Social workers may also be involved in community organization, policy making, administration of social service agencies, and development/implementation of social service programs.

Social work also involves advocacy for the client and social justice and equality for all.
