Scholarship Description List
- Eleanor R. Baldwin Endowed Scholarship Fund
- This scholarship is designated to undergraduate students who are Junior or Senior majoring in education and have a minimum 3.2 GPA. Graduate students are also eligible who have a 3.5 GPA. Students must be taking classes on the Boca campus. The scholarship will be merit based with the recipient demonstrating leadership potential in the field of education. Financial need will not be a consideration but may be applicable once merit has been clearly demonstrated.
- Fields Endowed Scholarship
- This scholarship endowment was created in 1994 to provide funding for students enrolled in the Genesis Teacher Education Project. The donor wanted to encourage young people to enter into the field of teaching as their career. Preference is given to secondary education majors.
- Harry Harmes Memorial Scholarship Fund
- This scholarship was established in September of 2000 by Marilyn and Charles Federico, longtime Florida Atlantic University associates, in memory of Dr. Harry M. Harmes, their friend and a founding faculty member of the College of Education. Dr. Harmes devoted 32 years to the development of FAU and this College. The award, in recognition of Dr. Harmes’ commitment to bringing talented individuals to the field of education, will be given to an outstanding doctoral student in Educational Leadership.
- Julie Jackson Scholarship Endowment Fund
- This scholarship was established by family members and friends of the late Julie Jackson. This scholarship is awarded to graduate students in exceptional or adult education
- Mildred Kytlica Scholarship Fund
- This scholarship was established in 2003 from the estate of Mildred Kytlica. This scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a degree from the College of Education.
- W. Dorne & J. Latham Kiwanis Education Scholarship
- Providing funding for scholarships within the College of Education, the Boca Raton Kiwanis Foundation, Inc. developed this fund in 1994. This scholarship is awarded to a Boca Raton resident who graduated from a Boca area high school, has been admitted to an undergraduate teacher training program in the College of Education, and agrees to maintain a full-time or approved academic schedule. Recipients may not apply for this award a second time.
- Dr. Dorothy S. Laird/E.G. Carel Endowed Scholarship Fund
- This scholarship gives preference to students enrolled in education, science, business, engineering, social sciences or humanities programs. Applicants must maintain a GPA of at least 2.8 in their undergraduate studies or a 3.0 at the master’s level. Applicants must demonstrate good moral character by providing three letters of recognition, one of which must be from the head of a recognized Catholic, Protestant or Jewish organization.
- Virginia D. Kelly Exercise, Science & Wellness Endowed Scholarship
- This scholarship is awarded annually to health sciences students in the College of Education who have finished at least one year of graduate study. This award is based on merit with preference to Christian students.
- Mary R. Leiper Endowed Memorial Scholarship
- This scholarship is awarded to students in the College of Education with a preference given to African-American students.
- James D. Logsdon Scholarship Endowment
- In 1982, Dr. Jack Wells, chairperson of the Department of Educational Leadership, chaired a scholarship fund-raiser on J. D. Logsdon’s passing. Contributors to the scholarship included all members of the Department of Educational Leadership, Dr. Logsdon’s doctoral students, and past participants in the Department’s Extern Program, which J. D. Logsdon directed throughout South Florida. The Rotary Club of Boca Raton also contributed to the memorial. The scholarship raised in excess of $10,000 within three months of Dr. Logsdon’s passing. This fund provides scholarships to graduate students within the College of Education in Educational Leadership for dissertations, which are awarded based on academics and financial need.
- John Miklos Exceptional Student Education Scholar Award
- In 1981, this endowment was created by Jan Mae Miklos and the Boca Raton Society for the Retarded. The scholarship provides funding to undergraduate and graduate students studying in the area of exceptional student education or developmental disabilities.
- Ernest O. Melby Fellowship Endowment
- This Melby Fellowship honors Dr. Ernest O. Melby who was a pioneer philosopher and advocate of community education. In 1976, he accepted a distinguished position at FAU where he served as a special consultant and lecturer for the Center for Community Education since 1965. The gift was established in 1987 through the efforts of various donors. One of the principal donors was Ms. Aurora Melby. The criteria for the fellowship include: 1) Evidence of field experience in community education; 2) Evidence of knowledge of the history and philosophical tenets of community education; 3) Evidence of a commitment to pursue a career in community education; 4) Evidence of community leadership service; 5) May not hold outside employment during fellowship year.
- Richard & Shirley Pendell Presbyterian Scholarship
- This scholarship was established by the late Dr. Richard Pendell and his wife, Shirley. This scholarship is awarded to talented students from Martin, St. Lucie, and Palm Beach counties who wish to pursue a teaching degree at FAU. Preference is given to Presbyterian students.
- John F & Gingerlee Pritchett Undergrad Elementary Scholarship
- This scholarship is to support Elementary Education majors during their undergraduate studies.
- David and Eleanor Rukin Memorial Scholarship
- This scholarship will be awarded to a senior exercise science and health promotions major taking physiology and kinesiology. The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need.
- Virginia and Douglas Stewart Excellence in Teaching Scholarship
- This scholarship provides funding to undergraduate or graduate students participating in their student teaching semester who have demonstrated excellence in teaching elementary school students. Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education majors are eligible to apply.
- Environmental Education Scholarship
- This scholarship provides funding to Graduate students who have been admitted to the Master’s Degree in Environmental Education program. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic excellence, service and financial need. Preference is given to full-time students.
- John W. Temple Teacher Education Scholarship Fund
- The scholarship was established by friends and family in honor of John Temple. This scholarship is awarded to students in the College of Education
- Toppel Family Early Childhood Doctoral Scholarship Fund
- This is a scholarship designated to Doctoral students who are pursuing specific early childhood research.
- Toppel Family Foundation Endowed Genesis Scholars
- The Toppel Family generously donated funds to support the Genesis Project. When the Genesis Project ended, funds were redirected to support undergraduates in the College of Education with demonstrated financial need.
- Pat L Tornillo Jr. Scholarship Fund
- This scholarship is available to undergraduate students who have been accepted for their freshman year at an State University System of Florida and who are committed to pursuing a career in education. The student's commitment to education will consist of a statement of personal educational goals of no more than one page plus a signed affirmation that he or she plans to major in education. 2. U.S. citizen or permanent resident. 3. Demonstrated financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid Office at the SUS University to which each applicant has applied. 4. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better at an accredited secondary school
- Gay Voss Rolling Green Elementary School Scholarship
- The purpose of this fund is to provide educational opportunities within the College of Education. The expendable portion of the scholarship fund will be directed by the Dean of the College and be used to provide financial assistance to deserving staff or faculty member of Rolling Green Elementary School to help the individual earn a college degree, an advance degree and/or teacher certification through coursework taken at Florida Atlantic University's College of Education.
- Stephen H. Voss Scholarship Fund
- This scholarship was established in 1991 and funded by Dr. Stephen Voss, this scholarship provides financial assistance to Elementary Education majors working on their bachelor’s degree. It is based on academic performance and financial need. Dr. Voss has been a professor in elementary education at FAU for over 35 years. This scholarship is one of several significant contributions to this University and the College of Education during his teaching career. Dr. Voss feels that his students have helped to make his life a happy one. Preference is given based on academic performance. Requires demonstration of financial need.
- Traica Vangeloff Thomas Endowed Scholarship
- This scholarship was established by the family of Traica Vangeloff Thomas, in honor of her 88th birthday. The scholarship is awarded to full- or part-time students in the College of Education who are dedicated to community education.
- James Woodruff, Jr. Scholarship
- This scholarship was established in 1995 by the late James Woodruff, Jr. in memory of his wife, Hazel Gates Woodruff. This scholarship provides funding to students enrolled in the College of Education.
