Major Selection

Are you confused about your choice of major?  Are you unhappy with the major you have chosen? The Career Counselors, Deborah Woods and Danielle Baker-Rose can help you with "major" problems and other career related issues.

Research studies show that over 35% of college students enroll without a major and many more students change their major within the first two years. Kent State University recognizes that students need counseling and assistance in finding an appropriate major in order to persist in their college classes and graduate in a timely manner.

Personal career counseling relating to your major is available through the career offices at both the East Liverpool and the Salem campuses. Some services relating to the choice of major are:

  • Personal counseling sessions,
  • Interest inventories such as the Self-Directed Search (SDS)
  • Personality inventories such as the Keirsey Sorter, and

Inventories such as the ones above will not give you a definite answer as to what major is best for you. They will, however, give you a general idea of what kinds or "clusters" of jobs may be a good "fit" for your personality and interests. Together with a career counseling appointment, these inventories are often helpful to students. The Keirsey Sorter may be completed on your own time at home and is available free on the Internet.

If you are an East Liverpool student and are interested in career counseling or any of the inventories listed above, contact Deborah Woods, the Career Counselor at 330-382-7528, or e-mail to dwoods1@kent.edu  to set up an appointment.

If you attend the Salem Campus, contact Danielle Baker-Rose at 330-337-4214 or e-mail to dbaker13@kent.edu
