All High School students are invited to enjoy a day of the performing and fine arts at Cowley College on March 7, 2012. Your articles will be featured in a college publication, Student writers attend and cover college events throughout the academic year. Journalism courses are offered to fine tune and update writing and editing skills.

Seniors in High School considering enrolling at Cowley College are encouraged to 'audition' for a Journalism/Photography Scholarship.

The Journalism/Photography Scholarship covers your books and tuition for 2 years whether for both journalism majors and none majors. Our credits transfer to most 4-year institutions. Our student newspaper is a place to hone your skills for university or an entry-level journalism position.

If you love to shoot pictures... Come to Cowley
Take our camera or use your own and document the history of Cowley College or at least your time on campus. Images go in the student newspaper as well as into the photo galleries online for public viewing.

Are you an aspiring writer? Editor? Webmaster? Videographer?
The Cowley Press may be the place for you. This student newspaper, published bi-monthly both online and in hard copy, offers students the opportunity to develop a portfolio of academic clips (published work). Students write everything from editorials to features and news reports to movie reviews. There are other opportunities on the paper as well; designer, webmaster, videographer, photographer and advertising manager.

Meet Meg Smith: Director of Journalism
Meg Smith

Meg Smith has been a journalism instructor/adviser and editor in Kansas and Washington. Before coming to Cowley, she taught at Emporia State University, University of Washington and Pierce College in Lakewood, WA. Smith's students have won student newspaper awards in Kansas and Washington. Her students have moved on to careers in newspaper, public relations and web editing among others. As the adviser for The Cowley Press and sponsor of the Media Club Smith enjoys working with her students and watching them grow as writers, photographers, editors and people. "I appreciate the energy in the newsroom on production night. Students push to meet their deadlines and work together to create a tangible product." She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal studies from the University of Washington and a Masters of educational technology from Pepperdine University.
