Cowley Student-Athletes of the Year
Nathan Mai of Ponca City, Okla., and Fernanda Domingos of Franca, Brazil, were named Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year during the annual athletic awards banquet at Cowley College. Nearly 350 people attended the banquet, which was held at the Agri-Business Building in Arkansas City. The banquet featured a dinner and a chance to hear the Tiger coaches speak about their teams’ seasons.
Mai, a sophomore, is a member of the Tiger tennis team. He was the regional singles champion at No. 5 singles as a freshman, and won the consolation bracket at the national tournament. This season, he finished third in the region at No. 2 singles, and was the regional runner-up at No. 1 doubles.
Domingos, also a sophomore, was a member of the Lady Tigers’ volleyball team that finished this past season as the NJCAA Division II national runner-up. She is the program’s only two-time All-American, and was named first-team all-conference and all-region each year at Cowley. Cheerleading, baseball, softball, and athletic training elected not to hand out individual awards at the banquet.
