Cowley students hope to raise homelessness awareness

C.A.A.T.
Spending 24 hours in a box to raise homelessness awareness, the Cowley Activities Awareness Team (C.A.A.T.) will take part in the second annual C.A.A.T. in a Box event on Feb. 10-11 in Arkansas City.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 and conclude at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at the parking lot of the Cowley College Baseball Complex. The event is open to any Cowley College student or faculty member. Those interested need to bring their own box. Students will receive service learning hours for helping with the event.

Along with raising awareness on homelessness, members of C.A.A.T will seek monetary and food donations. All monetary donations will be distributed evenly amongst the five meal ministries in town, while food donations will be delivered to the Manna Ministries Food Bank.

Jordan McDowell is among the individuals of C.A.A.T. that took part in last year’s event and will do so again this year.

“We hope to raise awareness in the community of those less fortunate,” McDowell said.

McDowell said a burn barrel will also be on site to make the setting even more realistic.
