Cowley students receive honors at Art in the Park

Three students of Cowley College art instructor, Mike Fell, received awards for their work that was on display at Saturday’s Art in the Park in Winfield.

Cowley College sophomore Henry Englemeyer received a blue ribbon and a $125 cash prize for the pottery he showed at the event. Fellow sophomore Abby Showalter garnered honorable mention recognition for her ceramics sculpture, while freshmen Alex Bowker (acrylics) and John Laffitte (ceramics) received honorable mention green ribbons for their work.

Fell, who did Raku firing at the event, was proud of his students accomplishments.

“I think they are doing outstanding work and feel fortunate they chose to be a part of Cowley College’s art program,” Fell said. “Their work could be sold just like these people at the event, who make a living making art.”

The students’ works will be on display throughout October at the Arts and Humanities Gallery at Winfield’s Baden Square. An artists reception at the Gallery will be held from 3-5 p.m., Oct. 16.

“These are scholar artists that are doing good in the classroom as well as in the art field,” Fell said.
