Shepard to have digital photography on display

Taking a digital photography class at Cowley College in 2009 helped mold Liz Shepard into the creative photographer she is today. Shepard’s variety of work will be on display Nov. 8 through Dec. 15 inside Cowley College’s Earle N. Wright Community Room. The exhibition of digital photography is titled “Look: A Characteristic of Visual Examination”.

The opening reception for the exhibition will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 5:30 p.m. Shepard will have 37 prints of photographs on display and for sale.

Shepard, who serves as the Upward Bound Program Director at Cowley College, began dabbling in photography at the age of 10. She always enjoyed taking pictures but gained a greater appreciation for the genre after taking Meg Smith’s digital photography class in the Spring of 2009.

“I thought I knew a lot about taking pictures but that class showed me I didn’t,” Shepard said. “I learned a lot from that class and my pictures changed for the better.”

Shepard enjoys taking photos of things close up to where you can see the detail of the image.

“I like taking pictures of anything that catches my eye,” Shepard said.

Shepard’s photos primarily consist of florals, scenery, architecture, people, and places.

“I hope people that view my photos see them and go “wow” and have a sense of wonderment,” Shepard said.

There is no cost to attend the opening reception or to view Shepard’s exhibition of digital photography.
