Phillips named December Male Student Athlete of the Month
Josh Phillips
Recognized as one of the leaders on the Cowley College track and field team, Josh Phillips puts in just as much effort when it comes to his schoolwork. The sophomore secondary education major’s accomplishments has not gone unnoticed as he was recently named the school’s December Male Student Athlete of the Month.
An accomplished pole vaulter, Phillips placed eighth at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships as a freshman. He also helped Cowley capture its fifth straight indoor conference title and place seventh nationally.
An injury forced Phillips to receive a medical redshirt during last year’s outdoor season. However, Phillips has worked hard to come back from the injury and will be counted on to have a big sophomore season.
Prior to coming to Cowley, Phillips placed second in the pole vault in the conference as a sophomore and fifth in the region as a junior at Arkansas City High School.
The son of Cowley head track and field coach Mark Phillips, Josh has posted a 3.20 grade point average at Cowley. Away from Cowley, he is employed at Hillcrest Bowling Lanes in Arkansas City.
