Cowley Tiger volleyball camps/summer league planned

Head coach Jenifer Bahner and members of the national champion Cowley College volleyball team are accepting registration for their summer volleyball camps as well as the girls’ high school summer volleyball league.

Coach Bahner has compiled a record of 104-11 in her three years as head coach of the Lady Tigers. Along with guiding Cowley to the program’s first-ever national championship, she has helped the team capture three straight conference and district titles.

The middle school session will be held June 23, while the high school session will take place July 31-August 2. A mini volleyball camp for individuals in first through fifth grade is scheduled for June 27. The cost for the mini volleyball camp and middle school camp is $40 a piece, while the cost of the high school camp is $140 for overnight campers that stay in the dormitories and $80 for those attending but not staying on campus. A camp t-shirt will be distributed on the last day of camp.

The emphasis of the middle school camp is to teach and develop the fundamental techniques and team concepts of volleyball. Campers will be introduced to all the skills that make up a complete volleyball player.

The high school camp will focus more on specialized skill training as well as competition on the court. There will be a total of six training sessions. Meals will be provided for residential campers, and commuter campers can pay $5 for each meal if they would like to eat with the other campers.

The mini volleyball camp will introduce young children to the game of volleyball. Skills will be incorporated in fun and interesting ways to maintain the attention and focus of young athletes. Campers will also participate in fun activities and will take home a newly designed picture frame for the camp photo and newly decorated flip flops to wear once camp ends.

Assistant coach Riann Mullis, who helped Cowley to a record of 38-2 overall and 10-0 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division during her first year at the school, will also assist with the camp.

The girls’ high school summer volleyball league will take place July 9-25 inside W.S. Scott Auditorium. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday nights.

Teams must consist of at least six players and are guaranteed at least two matches a night. The cost is only $40 per player and referees will be provided. Individuals may register and be placed on a team.

The championship match will take place on July 25 and winners will receive a Cowley College volleyball t-shirt.
