Federal Affairs
CTIA represents the wireless industry and carries its message to Capitol Hill and to the various Executive Branch departments and agencies. We conduct outreach to federal policymakers to educate them about wireless technology, the economics of regulation, and the multiple benefits the competitive wireless industry is bringing consumers. We also work with our members with offices in Washington, D.C. to complement and reinforce the wireless industry’s policy initiatives in Washington, D.C., and represents them as well as other members who do not have a presence in our nation’s capitol.
Issue areas continue to widen as the wireless industry expands with new service offerings, enhanced products, and a larger consumer base. Policy areas include a national framework for wireless, taxes, business issues, consumer protection, public safety, environment, and spectrum. CTIA’s Government Affairs Department spearheads this operation and has an outstanding reputation as a valuable resource for policymakers and their staff, and is equally effective in educating CTIA members on the critical policy topics that affect the wireless industry.
State Affairs
CTIA works with state regulatory agencies and legislatures on wireless-related issues such as the consumer-carrier relationship, taxation, and tower siting. With the ubiquity of wireless services, CTIA identifies potential coalition partners, including groups with an avid interest in wireless issues. By conducting outreach to key constituencies, such as seniors, the disabled and tribal communities, CTIA seeks to create a greater level of awareness and understanding of wireless industry initiatives and policies.
As wireless communications enhance the lives of consumers, CTIA's External and State Affairs Department explores all of the advocacy avenues for wireless policy by creating stronger relationships with organizations and policymaker groups with wireless interests.
