Hire a Co-op

Leverage the Northeastern Advantage

For 100 years years Northeastern's Cooperative Education Program has helped our employer partners connect with our talented and productive students. By joining with the D'Amore-McKim School of Business through co-op, our employer partners are able to tap into the best and brightest students - building a pipeline for talent even before students graduate.

What is Co-op?

Students in the undergraduate business programs alternative between six months of school and six months of co-op beginning in their sophomore year. During co-op periods, students work alongside permanent employees in full-time, paid positions. Typically our employers establish full-time positions and students rotate at six-month intervals. Co-op students provide a pipeline of experienced potential employees who bring a fresh perspective and understand the needs of today’s business environment. Co-op is an effective way for companies to meet their human resource needs. And, because these are 6-month work periods, students spend more time working, not just training.

How to Get Started

Co-op faculty coordinators work closely with companies and with our business students. Coordinators provide a wide range of expertise to our employers and support them through the hiring process, including: referring appropriate students who meet the criteria established by the employer, facilitating the interview process, and assisting with on-campus marketing/branding activities. Employers makes the hiring decisions and provide students with the training to perform the job. As with any employee, supervisors meet with the co-op students they hire to set goals, track performance and complete an evaluation at the end of the work period. Co-op faculty coordinators are available to support both the employer and students during the co-op work period.
