Resources for preschool parents

On January 21, 2012, District 58 hosted a workshop for parents whose children will be attending kindergarten at one of our 11 elementary schools this fall. Below is a link to a video of the "Getting Ready for Kindergarten" presentation by Highland Principal Dr. Judy Kmak, which focused on strategies to prepare a preschool child for kindergarten, including monthly literacy activities that can be done at home. You can also download the PowerPoint of Dr. Kmak's presentation, and a brochure that was distributed regarding upcoming kindergarten roundups at each District 58 elementary school.

On March 12, 2012, District 58's Grove Children's Preschool program hosted a workshop for parents of preschool-aged children called "Cool Tools for Parents with Kids in School." Participants had the opportunity to learn about free and low-cost apps that can support their child with skills they are gaining at school, as well as free websites that can engage and motivate children in their learning and serve as a resource for parents. The program was sponsored by a grant from the Illinois State Board of Education.
