Kent State University's Columbiana County campuses are the foundation for many students' successes, including those of Courtney Stryffeler. Stryffeler decided to attend Kent State University at East Liverpool because it was a reasonable distance from her home and had an associate degree in nursing program (ADN). "I wanted to earn an ADN so I could work as a registered nurse while obtaining my bachelor's in science in nursing (BSN)," she explained.

Stryffeler said some of her favorite memories of Kent State East Liverpool include her friend and fellow student, Amber Wolfe, who she carpooled with. "We had a lot of good times while attending KSU and were supportive of each other while in our ADN program," she said. "Every nursing student needs someone who understands the struggles and gratifications that come with an intense nursing program. She was also there to watch over me while I finished the semester very pregnant."

Not interested in big universities, Stryffeler said she enjoyed the size and convenience of Kent State East Liverpool. "I am not a huge fan of large campuses that make it difficult to find the building in which classes are held," she said.

Stryffeler advises anyone interested in attending Kent State East Liverpool or Kent State Salem to contact an adviser.

"Meet with them to discuss your program of interest and the necessary actions needed to enroll," she suggests. "The advisers are extremely helpful in answering questions, and guiding you in the proper direction to begin your course of study in a timely manner."

Following graduation in the spring of 2009, Stryffeler, began working as an RN. She also started classes towards her BSN. A working mother, Stryffeler is currently employed at Aultman Hospital, in Canton, Ohio, as a nurse in the Cardiovascular Surgical ICU. She also obtained her Critical Care Certification after meeting all requirements to sit for this national exam.

This past spring she graduated with President's Honor from Chamberlain College of Nursing. She is currently a graduate student at the University of Akron and working towards becoming a nurse anesthetist. This month she interviewed for a position in a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists class that begins in June 2012 and is awaiting the results.

"The start of my success did indeed start at Kent State University," Stryffeler said.
