Cashbaugh has been a music educator for many years and feels compelled to use his passion to provide a therapeutic outlet for his students. He uses his talents to reach disabled children through music therapy, a desire that stems from having to cope and adapt to his own vision loss at a very young age. “My dreams changed, and the way I approached everyday life had to change,” he said.

Eager to continue his education, Cashbaugh chose to pursue a degree in occupational therapy. With a degree in hand, he is excited to continue providing therapy. “My goal is to help continue the process of successfully transitioning people to adapt and function productively in their community,” Cashbaugh said. “Overall, I believe occupational therapy is the essence of what a ‘helping profession’ truly is.”

Kathy Swoboda was one of Cashbaugh’s instructors at Kent State and fondly describes him as a special student who is an inspiration to her and to his classmates. “It is my absolute honor for Sonny to represent our campus and the occupational therapy program,” stated.

A singer and songwriter at heart, Cashbaugh enjoys writing songs about his own life situations and sharing them with the world through his youtube account. Most recently, he shared his musical talents by performing at the 2013 Kent State East Liverpool commencement ceremony.
