Frequently Asked Questions About The Admissions Tuition Deposit
-
What is the Tuition Deposit?
Florida Atlantic University now requires a $200.00 non-refundable tuition deposit from all admitted first-time freshmen students in order to confirm enrollment in the freshman class. The tuition deposit is applied directly toward your tuition and fees for your first semester at FAU.
-
Why do I need to pay the Tuition Deposit?
The tuition deposit allows the University to more accurately report new student class data to more efficiently plan for class offerings and student resources in the future. It also encourages incoming freshman students to examine their college choice before completion of their senior year in high school which increases their selection in housing and classes.
-
When is the Tuition Deposit due?
The deadline for the deposit is May 1. If a student is offered admission for spring, the deadline is December 1. We recommend submitting your deposit once you have made your final decision to attend FAU.
-
Is the $200 Tuition Deposit the same as the $200 Housing pre-payment?
The $200 Tuition deposit required from the Office of Admissions is separate from the prepayment required by the Department of Housing and Residential Live. If you plan to live on campus, please contact our Housing department for more information on the required housing contract and prepayment.
-
Do I have to make my tuition deposit before submitting a housing contract with the Office of Housing and Residential Life?
Housing contracts may be submitted before making the tuition deposit. However, room assignments will not be made until the tuition deposit has been paid.
-
Can I apply for financial aid and housing before I confirm my enrollment at FAU?
Students may apply for need-based financial aid and housing before paying the tuition deposit.
-
Can I register for Orientation before I pay my tuition deposit?
Students must confirm their intention to enroll and pay the $200 tuition deposit before they are able to register for student Orientation and classes.
-
What if I pay my deposit and then change my mind about attending FAU?
The tuition deposit is non-refundable. We recommend that students be firm in their decision to attend FAU before submitting their deposit.
-
What happens to the $200 once I pay it?
The $200 is applied to your tuition and fees for the semester in which you are admitted to FAU. It will be forfeited if you pay the deposit and choose not to enroll at FAU for that term, or if you submit a change of entry request for a different term.
-
I received an SAT and/or ACT fee waiver, do I still need to pay the tuition deposit?
No. Students who received an SAT or ACT fee waiver and used it to apply to FAU are exempt from paying the $200 tuition deposit. These students should check the box on the bottom of their Tuition Deposit Form indicating that they are recipients of an SAT or ACT waiver.
-
What if I have financial need?
If your federal financial aid needs analysis indicates that you are eligible for a Pell Grant, you may qualify for a tuition deposit waiver. If you use an ACT or SAT fee waiver for your FAU application fee, you may make arrangements with the office of Admissions to waive the tuition deposit. Student with a tuition deposit waiver must still confirm their intention to enroll before the deadline by submitting the Tuition Deposit Form.
-
My tuition is paid through Florida Prepaid Program, Florida Bright Futures and/or other financial aid and scholarships, do I still need to pay the tuition deposit?
All admitted freshmen students are required to submit the tuition deposit. Potential scholarship funding cannot be used in lieu of this deposit. Florida Prepaid Tuition funds are not released until you have enrolled for classes, so these funds cannot be used either. If there is a credit balance in your account after your tuition and fees are paid your initial semester, you will receive a refund.
-
