Job offer from ESPN Radio

Read Story:
Hi Everyone, I just wanted to share with you my success story! After attending an info session with ESPN here on campus, I decided I really wanted to pursue my interest in sports writing. I got a lot of useful tips from the info session and went on the Career Development Center website and revamped my entire resume. After fixing my resume I decided to post it on the Career Center’s OWL Career Link website. A couple months after doing so I got an email from the promotions director at ESPN 760 wanting to set up an interview with me. So I went in for the interview and less than a week later, I was hired as an intern and registered for the Co-op/Intern Program through the Career Development Center. This has been the most exciting opportunity to come my way since I started here at FAU in the fall of 2010.

Job offer from Marcum LLP

Read Story:
I attended the Career Day & Technical Fair in Fall 2011. After meeting with the representatives from Marcum, I was invited to interview with the firm in the form of an on-campus interview at the Career Development Center. Two weeks later, I was invited into their office for the onsite interview. The following week I was offered a full-time position, starting in January 2013. Thanks CDC!

Job offer from Miami Dolphins

Read Story:
Before interning with the Miami Dolphins, I interned with Clear Channel Communications, Interscope Records, and Cornerstone Agency. Each internship was very different but similar in their own ways. Currently with the Miami Dolphins my intern duties include Editing on Final Cut Pro and creating graphics with After Effects. I am part of the film crew on game days which includes filming plays on the field, cheerleaders on the sidelines and fans in the stands. On non game days I assist with interviews of players, coaches, team employees, and cheerleaders. I assist in red carpet events on game day by escorting luminaries into the stadium. I am responsible for assuring that on-site interviewers know which celebrities are coming to them and when. I also assist in the control room on game days for Jumbotron replays. I gained experience in working with production and broadcast managers who directs when to switch to different camera angles, and audio that is broadcasted throughout the stadium.

I couldn't have asked for better experiences with all of my internships. I highly recommend all students at the FAU campus to engage in the internship opportunities that they have available to them through the Career Development Center.

Job offer from The American Fund Studies

Read Story:
I decided to apply for a work/study program through the American Fund Studies Organization and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. for the summer. The Institute of Philanthropy and Voluntary Services offers 6 or 9 credits of class work from Georgetown along with an internship of a Non-for Profit of my choice. Their application was very tedious so I was directed to the CDC for help with my resume. With their help, I perfected my resume to the exact way that my application required it to me and I received tremendous assistance with my 3 essays which were required. After my interview on a Friday afternoon, I received word that I was accepted into the program early Monday morning. I couldn't have  done it without the help of the CDC. They were patient and answered all my questions.

Job offer from The PNC Financial Services Group

Read Story:
My success story is great because it shows through hard work and dedication, you can succeed. I utilized the Career Day services at FAU to meet and network with key PNC recruiters. The process at FAU made it much easier to get noticed and discuss my qualifications in person. I had been interviewing from December 2010 through March 2011 for a position in the Chicago/WI market. In late February, I was contacted and denied the opportunity to fly to Pittsburgh for the final round interviews. However, I knew I was the right candidate so I decided to ask for a reconsideration. As a result, I was granted the opportunity to fly the Pittsburgh to meet with the Chicago/WI market managers. Then, in less than a week I was contacted by the recruiting team that I had been accepted into the program and received the offer. I will now be relocating to PNC's Chicago/WI market and be doing my training in Milwaukee, WI.

Job offer from Department of Children & Families

Read Story:
As a Peer Adviser in the Career Development Center, I was able to use many of the valuable resources to look for jobs and internships. The most notable resource was the Owl Careelink (online job database). It was through this site that I found an internship with Florida Department of Children & Families. Owl Careerlink gives you the opportunity to see what is offered in the employment world. New job listings are posted everyday to give you a true chance of finding something. I was browsing the database and came across a Florida Department of Children & Families internship opportunity. I applied and now I intern in the Refugee Services Department.

Job offer from TBC Corporation

Read Story:
I went through the Career Development Center to see what was available to me, it was probably the easiest and best thing I could have done for myself. I found an internship, applied, got the job and within in 4 months they offered me a full time position. If I would have never went through the Career Development Center I would have never found this opportunity and may not have received the job.

Job offer from Northwestern Mutual Financial Network

Read Story:
I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in marketing in December 2009 and with the job market the way that it is right now, I am very thankful that I began my work experience while still attending school. I met Northwestern Mutual Financial Network while attending the Career Day & Technical Fair on campus and the Financial Representative Internship appealed to me. Northwestern Mutual Financial Network is known as "The Quiet Company", the humble kind of quiet. It doesn't show off, but strives to improve peoples' lives, and that sounded like something I wanted to be a part of. I have a genuine empathy for other people and Northwestern Mutual Financial Network allows me to work to help people in a variety of ways. It also didn't hurt that their internship has been one of America's top ten internships for the past 14 years in a row.

Job offer from Mattress Firm

Read Story:
I used the helpful team at the Career Development Center for pointers on my resume where I learned that FAU had a Career Day and Technical Fair exclusive to FAU students and alumni. I attended the Career Day 101 Seminar where experts gave advice on how to prepare, how to dress, what to say, and how to act. After visiting the Mattress Firm booth, and learning about the corporate culture and growth opportunities, I decided to follow up as it seemed to fit with exactly what I was looking for. One year later I was on the other side of the booth representing Mattress Firm at my Alma Mater. I went through a 3 month Manager-In-Training program that was concluded with 1 week at the corporate head quarters in Houston. I then was a Manager-On-Duty where I traveled as a floating manager for about 5 months before I was given the opportunity to be the Store Manager of our West Palm Beach location! The Career Day 101 course prepared me well. They discussed what to wear, who would be there, and how to leave an impression. They also encouraged us to do some research on the companies we were interested in as well as using the Career Day floor plan to ensure a smooth and timely execution during your time at the Career Day.
