Frequently Asked Questions for Graduate Students

1. What are the requirements for being admitted to a FAU graduate program?

   A student seeking admission into a graduate program of Florida Atlantic University must meet at least the minimum standards set by the Florida Board of Regents and the University as well as the specific requirements set by the program. The minimum FAU admission requirements established by the Florida Board of Regents are:

   • A Bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited institution and at least one of the following criteria;
   • A "B" (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) average or better in all work as a registered upper division student;
   • A combined score of 1000 (verbal and quantitative) on the Graduate Records Exam (GRE), or;
   • A graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution.

   All applicants must take the GRE and submit their official scores regardless of their grade point average. Individual program requirements may be more selective.

2. Can I take classes that will count for my degree before I take the GRE?

   Yes, you can take up to 1/3 of the total program requirements prior to admission into a graduate program. These courses must be taken as a non-degree seeking student. Admission to the College or program will not occur without GRE scores.

4. What documents do I need to send in with my application?

   Graduate Applications require a $30 U.S. non-refundable application fee. Official transcripts from each college or university attended must be sent directly to the FAU Admissions Office. Graduate applicants must request that the Education Testing Service send their GRE scores to FAU.

   The College itself has some financial aid available specifically to its students. For example, there are Ph.D. stipends and Environmental Growth Management Fellowships in the MPA & MURP programs.
