Master of Public Administration

MPA Mission

The mission of Florida Atlantic University Master of Public Administration program is to provide intellectual, analytical, technical, and practical education to advance the state of knowledge in public administration and to enhance ethical public service values within our service region.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the Master of Public Administration program must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. They should have a minimum average grade of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, effectively spring 2015. Meeting minimal standards does not guarantee admission. All applicants must send a résumé to the College advising office.

Applicants who do not meet the minimal criterion of 3.2 or better in their undergraduate degrees are required to take the GRE. These applicants are also invited to supplement their applications with additional information that will be taken into account by the M.P.A. committee. These items may include a 500-word personal statement detailing why earning the M.P.A. is important; samples of academic writing; letters of recommendation, preferably from full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty; evidence of an earned master’s or law degree; and descriptions of challenging life, cultural and/or career circumstances that have been overcome.

Credit Transfer

Students who have not applied for admission or who may have applied but have not yet been admitted to the MPA program, may register for up to fifteen (15) credit hours of course work as a non-degree seeking student. A maximum of fifteen (15) semester hours taken in non-degree status may be transferred to the MPA program without submitting a petition, if the courses were taken in the FAU MPA program and a grade of "B" or better was received in each course.

No credit counted as part of another degree may be counted toward the MPA. All work toward the MPA must be completed within ten years after initial registration in the program. If you have graduate-level credits that you believe can be transferred from another school, you must obtain a copy of the course syllabus and submit a petition. Petitions are available from Myroslava Skoroden at mskorode@fau.edu, Social Science Bldg 44, Room 206. Request for transfer credits should be made at the time of admission and is limited to six credits, in which the student earned a minimum grade of "B." Decisions regarding credit transfers are at the discretion of the MPA Coordinator.
