Re: $2,000 cash awards

We invite you to participate in the Judith Holm Memorial Student Awards, based on clinical papers that demonstrate excellence in preparation for clinical practice. Each winner receives a cash award of $2,000. Click the link at the end of this message to find out how to apply.

The deadline for submission is Tuesday, February 21, 2006. Early submissions are encouraged. Eligible entries will be judged by a national panel of advanced clinicians and educators, with winners to be announced in the spring.

Social Work Students United First Meeting

"Social Work Students United" is pleased to announce that it held it's first meeting as the new FAU School of Social Work students association on November 15, 2005 at the Boca campus, with a follow-up meeting on November 17 at the Davie Campus. Over 30 bright and energetic members were in attendance. We discussed issues ranging from communication to curriculum to the constitution of the new organization. We also arranged for a meeting with Dr. Michele Hawkins (Director of the SSW) and Dr. Ellen Ryan (BSW Director and new advisor for our group) to discuss how students and faculty can work together on issues of concern to all of us. The interim president and vice president of the student organization are Monique Griffin ( mgriff21@fau.edu) and Krystal Kane ( Skavolley@aol.com). We plan to have elections for officers at a series of daytime and evening meetings in January. Feel free to contact our interim leaders if you have any questions or comments.

PS - we also enjoyed pizza, drinks, and desserts which were donated by various attendees. Thanks for the munchees, and thanks to Jenn, Jon, Monique, Sharon, Krystal, Kate, Shanta, Anne, Prof. Barsky, and everyone else who helped out with the survey and facilitation of the meeting.
