FAU Campuses Host Events

in Honor of Black History Month

Florida Atlantic University will commemorate Black History Month with a series of events to honor this celebration. The following events will take place at the university’s Boca Raton campus, unless otherwise noted:

What: “Loving Nappy as Resistance: Bell Hooks, Neo-Soul, and the Politics of Black Hair,” lecture by Sika Dagbovie, department of English.

Date: Monday, February 6, 4 p.m.

Location: Social Sciences Building, Room 105, Boca Raton campus

What: “The Necessity of Understanding the Past in Order to Understand African Americans’ Present,” lecture by Pero Dagbovie, department of history.

Date: Friday, February 10, 4 p.m.

Location: Live Oak Pavilion A, University Center, Boca Raton campus

What: “SHARIKA: A Multicultural Celebration of African-American History” in partnership with the Abacoa Project of FAU’s Anthony J. Catanese Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions, West Jupiter Community Group, the Black Student Union of FAU’s MacArthur Campus, the Office of Diversity Services of FAU’s MacArthur Campus, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Date: Saturday, February 11, noon to 4 p.m.

Location: FAU MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., Jupiter campus.
