FAU Presents ‘Bio-Materials Research at the Nanoscale’ by Dr. Korey Sorge

BOCA RATON , FL (February 28, 2006) – Florida Atlantic University presents Dr. Korey Sorge, assistant professor of physics at FAU, who will present “Bio-Materials Research at the Nanoscale.” The presentation will take place Thursday, March 2 at 3:30 p.m. in the Charles E. Schmidt Biomedical Center, room 126.

Biomaterials research has progressed over the past several hundred years to developing intentionally bioactive materials that can either be used for multiple functions or that disappear after their usefulness has passed.  Material scientists who are now able to manipulate materials at atomic and molecular scales – the nanoscale – have much to do with this increased functionality.

Sorge will present some types of biomaterials, problems and concerns with the development of new systems, and how nanoscale materials science will contribute to the future of biomaterials research.

Sorge’s research interests include experimental magnetic nanophysics, biological physics, condensed matter and material science.   He received his Ph.D in physics from the University of Tennessee in 2002 and has been at FAU since 2005.

The Frontiers in Science Spring 2006 Public Lecture Series is free and open to the public.   It is sponsored by the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, supported by FAU’s Lifelong Learning Society Endowed Professorship.
