Nathan Tinanoff to Discuss the Challenges of Creating a Sound Archive
WHAT: Nathan Tinanoff, founder and director of the Judaica Sound Archives (JSA) at Florida Atlantic University Libraries, will present a lecture titled “Preserving a Jewish Music Heritage.”

Nathan Tinanoff, founder and director of the Judaica Sound Archives at Florida Atlantic University Libraries, will present a lecture titled “Preserving a Jewish Music Heritage,” on Friday, March 9, 2007, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on the fifth floor of the S.E. Wimberly Library. The JSA has grown into a major center for the collection, digitization and study of Judaica recorded music, during the last five years. Tinanoff will discuss how his discovery of an endangered Judaica heritage led him to follow unimaginable paths. He will include excerpts from the JSA’s vast music collection as part of the lecture, including such favorites as “Roumania, Roumania,” “Second Hand Rose” and “My Yiddishe Momme.” Seating is limited. Parking is free.
