FAU Appoints New Director for Jack Miller Forum
BOCA RATON (May 23, 2008) – Florida Atlantic University recently announced that Jeffrey Morton, professor of political science in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, has been appointed as the new director of the Jack Miller Forum for Civics Education at FAU. The Forum is a three-year initiative at the University funded by the Jack Miller Center for Teaching America’s Founding Principles and History. The Center supports partner faculty and academic centers dedicated to teaching America’s founding principles and history.
The Forum will start with an inaugural conference early next year on the theme of immigration and civic education in America. The program also will include the organization of public lectures about critical topics regarding America's founding principles and history, as well as the establishment of the Jack Miller Seminar and Reading Room in the political science department, a resource aimed at bringing faculty and students together for research and discussion.
Morton, who joined FAU in 1996, is a professor of international law and politics. He has published across several important fields, contributing to the field of international law, security studies, international organization and international relations theory. His book, International Law Commission of the UN, was reviewed in the American Political Science Review. Morton has also published in leading refereed journals in the field, including the Journal of Peace Studies and Journal of Global Society. His 2004 book, Reflections on the Balkan Wars, emerged from a conference he organized on this topic at FAU in 2002. For more information on the Jack Miller Forum at FAU, call 561-297-3216.
