1/14/08 - "Join It" Civic Engagement Kickoff Event

A crowd of more 2,400 packed the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium in the Student Union to see Comedy Central's "Indecision 2008" show and congratulate the winners (above) of the "Joint It" essay, t-shirt and video contests.

1/17/08 - Student Government Mock Debate

Moderated by Florida State Representative Maria Sachs, the Student Government Mock Debate consisted of eight students that represented Democratic and Republican presidential candidates while debating the issues that lay at the forefront of the current U.S. presidential election.

The Republican candidates were represented by (left to right) Kaitlin Marotti, Joseph Adams, Kris O'Brien and Dustin Mitchell.

The Democratic candidates were represented by (left to right) Pablo Best, Christopher Scott, Kevin Cho Tipton and Ayden Maher.

Attendees at the "Join It!" events and workshops received a commemorative presidential debate button.

1/23/08 and1/24/08 - Media Coverage


More than 400 members of the media were credentialed to cover the debate hosted at FAU. On the day before the debate, they participated in a walk-through of the debate site, which included the media filing center, the "spin room" and the debate hall.

As early as 5 a.m. on the morning of the debate, FAU students and employees were on-hand to be interviewed by local, national and international media outlets. Later in the day, FAU students Ayden Maher and Rolando Herrera were interviewed as part of MSNBC's coverage.

NBC News Chief White House Correspondent David Gregory conducted an on-air roundtable political discussion with FAU students just prior to the debate broadcast.

MSNBC's Chris Matthews, host of "Hardball with Chris Matthews," broadcast his show live from FAU prior to the debate. Matthews also moderated post-debate coverage from his on-site studio outside the FAU Student Union.

1/24/07 - Debate Day

Florida Governor Charlie Crist welcomed the debate hall audience prior to the broadcast.

1/24/08 Official Watch Party

After welcoming the audience in the debate hall, FAU President Frank Brogan and Mrs. Brogan surprised two attendees at the Official Watch Party by swapping seats with them. The lucky FAU student and staff member attended the debate next door while the Brogans joined the Watch Party with more than 400 other attendees.

Immediately following the debate, Republican presidential candidate Gov. Mike Huckabee accepted the invitation FAU extended to all candidates to speak at the Watch Party.

1/25/08 - MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Broadcast

The morning after the debate, MSNBC's "Morning Joe" broadcast live from the debate site at FAU. Hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough talked with NBC political correspondent David Shuster and FAU President Frank Brogan during a segment about Florida's role in the 2008 election (left to right).
