Graduate School Information Session. The Graduate Committee is holding a Graduate School Information Session for undergraduate or graduate students thinking of applying to MA, MFA or PhD programs. The session will feature a panel of faculty members and FAU alums who are now in grad school. The panel will discuss the following: deciding on where to apply, writing a statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, etc.

English Graduate Student Society (EGSS) Conference and Reading Event. The conference is scheduled for Nov. 17th and 18th from 9am to 3pm in Majestic Palm Room A. At this portion of the conference, graduate students in English and other discplines will present their work in literary studies, composition and rhetoric, craft and pedagogy.

On the evening of the 18th, at 7PM in CU301 (tentatively), we will hold the EGSS Night of Creative Writing, which presents the creative work of the graduate students in the English Department.

Mindful Body in Healing and the Arts: Keynote Speaker Anne Harrington, D. Phil., Professor for the History of Science,Harvard University and author of The Cure Within.

The Center for Body, Mind and Culture will host a 2-day conference, January 19-20, 2011 at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton. Regarding the body as sentient, purposive subjectivity (rather than mere physical flesh), the conference will focus on ways that somatic mindfulness can contribute to health, healing, and aesthetic experience. Papers dealing with disciplines of mindful body consciousness (Asian and Western) and their applications in the areas of wellness, fitness, and the arts are especially welcome.
The conference panels on Thursday and Friday (from 9:30-5:30 Thursday, 9:00-5:00 Friday) are in AH 205.
The keynote address (from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday) will be in PA 101, with a reception in the gallery following.

Literary Agent Laura Strachan will be delivering a lecture, "To Query or Not to Query," on Thursday, Feb. 23rd. Laura Strachan established her literary agency in 1998 to combine her lifetime love of books and good writing with her background as a licensed attorney. She is a current member of both the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars, as well as the Author's Guild, and was cited in the Jan/Feb 2008 issue of Poets & Writer's Magazine as one of "21 Agents You Should Know."
