Exploratory / Undeclared Students

If you are an incoming freshman who is uncertain of your choice of major, we recommend that you use this time to learn more about yourself, explore your major options, and the career possibilities available to you before you make a decision.

While all students entering FAU with less than 30 credit hours must fulfill the university’s Intellectual Foundations Program curriculum requirements, certain majors have specific requirements within the core.  Therefore, it is vital that students consult with their freshman academic advisor when making course selections to ensure that core curriculum requirements are met and to keep their major options open.

There is no pressure for freshmen to declare a major.  However, in order to complete a degree in a timely manner and make informed career decisions, students are encouraged to go to the Career Development Center in their first semester to begin the career planning process, and to the Freshman Academic Advising Services Office to meet with their freshman academic advisor.

As you go through the three steps, keep in mind that choosing a major does not restrict you to one occupation, and that one major can lead to a diversity of careers!
