Tuesday, December 7, 2010Jupiter Campus network went down for about 15 minutes due to a Metro-E circuit outage. IRM worked with AT&T to correct this issue.

Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday our maintenance window took place on Wednesday, November 24. The following system were down for maintenance.
- Password Synchronization (IDM) from 3:00 am - 7:00 a.m.
- Effort Certification will be down sporadically between 3:00 am -7:00 am, due patches being applied.
Users were experiencing some latency when accessing Banner or Self-Service due to a high volume of changes being processed.
Thursday, November 11, 2010INB java signing and HR patches. No downtime will be required while SSL certificate gets updated.
Once finished a pop-up alert will appear when you are trying to log in to INB. All users will need to click the checkbox and then click Run. The message will not appear again
Banner will be down – This means that Self-Service was unavailable as well as the systems listed below:
- ODS
- Report Caster
- Signature System
- Banner Travel
- EFC
- PCI
ePrint was reported down. Issue was resolved.

At 3:43 the edge BGP router crashed. Network connectivity was restored at 3:54.
Wednesday, October 13, 2010SafeAssign was unavailable from 11:00pm to 12:00am.
During this time downtime, no papers can be submitted and SafeAssignments will not be available for edit or grading.

MyFAU was experiencing some problems.
- Causing your login to MyFAU to be unsuccessful or very slow.
- It can also cause your Blackboard login to be slow.
- You may also experience issues such as slowness sending/receiving mail in your outlook through MyFAU mail. (Does not apply to Exchange users).
Issue was resolved on Friday Sept. 24.

Network Upgrades to Cause Service Outages during Summer Break Week
Beginning on Monday, August 16, IRM will upgrade the networking infrastructure to implement a redundant Internet connection. This upgrade will cause brief intermittent interruptions to the network and telephone systems during the implementation and testing of the new connection. IRM will begin testing network and telephone services on Monday, August 16 between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m. and will continue through Friday, August 20.
Calls between campuses as well as off campus calls may require dialing a seven- or ten-digit number. In case of an emergency during this period, the FAU Police Department can be reached at 561-271-5163.

The POP server experienced problems requiring a reboot of the server at about 8:30 a.m. Services were restored within 20 minutes.

During the system maintenance window Blackboard was not available between 5:30 a.m. � 7:00 a.m.

Changing your password from Microsoft Windows by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del is now completely supported by the password synchronization system. When password changes occur they will now immediately synchronize with MyFAU without a temporary loss of Banner Self Service access.
As a result of this update passwords may now be changed within MyFAU or on the desktop by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del.

Phishing Scam - About message with subject line �SERVICE NOTICE�
If you receive an e-mail that appears to be from "Florida Atlantic University [webmaster1@fau.edu]� and a subject line of "SERVICE NOTICE", delete it. It asks for the recipient to click on the link provided to deactivate or keep their e-mail account. This message is NOT legitimate and is known as "phishing" -- an attempt to get personal information from people. Thursday May 20, 2010Our Systems staff members have reported that a faculty e-mail address has been compromised, and from this address someone has sent thousands of e-mails all over the world. Most of these messages are bouncing back and creating a problem for the mail system. We are in the process of cleaning up these �bad e-mails�. Mail on MyFAU is flowing a bit slow as a result of these messages bouncing.
This issue was resolved and emails were running properly by the next day.

SAFARI AND FIREFOX USERS in Blackboard: It has been reported that with the Safari browser and versions of Firefox prior to 3.5 users are having problems downloading files. This issue was resolved.

We will be performing emergency Systems Diagnostics on the F5/BIG-IP from 5:00am to 7:00am. This will cause intermittent interruptions in service to the following Applications:
- BlackBoard
- Banner (Self Service and INB)
- MyFAU
- IDM (Single Username/Password)
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause our users.
AT&T was having a problem and incoming/outgoing calls to SeaTech were not getting through. Five digit intra and inter-campus calls were completed with no problem No other campuses experienced any problems.
Thursday, May 6, 2010Blackboard - Navigation Cancelled Security Error
Please use blackboard.fau.edu to prevent further errors.
Faculty may get a navigation cancelled error on Grade Center. To see all the channels (secure and non-secure), click "No" when you get the pop-up message. Don't want to get this question all the time? Change your browser settings so it will always display both secure and non-secure items:
- Start Internet Explorer.
- From the Internet Explorer toolbar, select the Tools menu, and then select click Internet Options.
- Select the Security tab, click the Custom Level button on the bottom of the window.
- In the Miscellaneous section, click the Enable radio button under Display mixed content.
- Click OK. You'll be returned to the Internet Options window.
- Click OK.
The issue of opening a page with mixed content of secure/unsecure including the Grade Center has been resolved.

When you change your password via MyFAU, the updated password will automatically synchronize with the following IRM systems and services:
- All FAU computers in the FAU domain, including computers in the labs, classroom computers, and office computers
- MyFAU
- **Blackboard (As of May 13)**
- E-mail (such as Microsoft Exchange)
- Access to share drives
- Mac OS computers connected to the FAU network
- Login to the FAU network, wired and/or wireless
- Cisco VPN
- PrintOnline.fau.edu
Please note that your individual passwords will remain the same until you CHANGE your password. At that point there will be one password for these systems. For more information about this change please visit MyFAU and check out our new improved look and feel.
From 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., the University PhoneMail (voicemail) system will not be operational due to scheduled maintenance. PhoneMail will not accept messages and will not be accessible during this time.

Friday, April 16, 2010We experienced a telephone outage affecting all of the outer FAU campus locations as well as the Boca campus T-Area, Service was restored at 11:00am.
Wednesday, April 14, 2010Cisco switch maintenance in Bldg 8 / ss, between 6 and 7 am. There was a brief network outage in bldg 8 during the maintenance window.

* Official Transcripts are currently not printing. * Banner may be performing slower than usual as the jobs in the backlog begin running again.
A problem arose with the disk drives on ibiweb.fau.edu and will need to perform an emergency re-boot.
Wednesday, March 31, 2010NWRDC has reported that the SFTP server, vm-sftp-02.nwrdc.com, is currently down with a hardware failure. This does affect all Appworx and other production jobs doing Secure FTP from/to that server. Server was restored.
Thursday, March 25, 2010Network upgrades to cause a five-hour service outage in the Student Housing Services Building and the Housing Assistants� Building on the Boca Raton campus: Between 5 to 10 p.m., IRM will upgrade the networking infrastructure in the Student Housing Services Building (#46) on the Boca Raton campus. Extended periods of inaccessibility to network services in both the Student Housing Services Building and the Housing Assistants� Building (#18) was experienced during the time frame outlined above. Telephone service will not be affected.

Friday, March 19, 2010There was a problem affecting Exchange Mail Server. It affected sending and receiving Exchange email and Blackberry Services. Was 100% restored by 11:00 p.m.

Thursday, March 11, 2010- IRM will upgrade the networking infrastructure in the north wing of the Social Science Building (Building 44) on the Boca Raton campus. The upgrade will start on Thursday night, March 11, at 6 p.m. and continue through 2 a.m. on Friday, March 12. Extended periods of inaccessibility to network and voice services will be experienced during this time frame. IRM requests that people in the north wing of the Social Science Building turn off their computers at the end of the day to safeguard their files.
- We are currently having a problem with an FAU Web server, FAUWEB1. Systems is currently working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
This is affecting web services, FTP and other services.

Thursday, February 19, 2010Self Service (OWLS) will be down at 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. approximately for an emergency update to address the "Access Denied" error most of us have seen today. System was brought back online close to 11:00 p.m.
February 10 - 13, 2010Banner, the University's primary information and database system, and Self-Service (for students, employees and faculty) will undergo a major upgrade starting Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 5:00 p.m. Those systems and the functions/services that require them became available about 6:00 p.m. Below is an example of the kinds of services that were not available during that down time:
- FACTS (transcripts, transient forms, degree audits, admission applications).
- Self-Service (paying fees, checking grades, schedules, or financial aid) Students will not be able to pay fees, check grades or schedules, or access financial aid information.
- Employee assignment forms (EPAF, PAF) .
- WOLF (becomes unavailable 4:30 p.m., Feb. 10).
- Banner reporting (including through ODS).
- pCard processing and the approval module (pCards may still be used, but charges will not post until Banner is back up).
MyFAU will be restarted which means the system will be unavailable for approximately 20 minutes. This restart should take care of some issues we've started to see, including the missing function icons (mail, etc.).
Wednesday, January 6, 2010Networking will be performing an infrastructure upgrade to the Algonquin building (Bldg. 6) on the Boca Campus tomorrow between 8:00 am and 8:30 am. There will be a brief interruption to network connectivity in this building only.
Friday January 1, 2010The MyFAU upgrade is complete.
If you had to have your password reset during the upgrade , that reset password will not work now. If you can't log in now, you will unfortunately need to call the help desk to have your password reset in the upgraded system.
E-mail client
The e-mail client in MyFAU has also been upgraded. The main effect of the upgrade is that you will be able to apply some basic formatting to your e-mail messages and can also send e-mail with HTML in it. E-mail you received during the upgrade will be moved to the upgraded MyFAU. This process may take up to a half day. Therefore, some mail that you saw Dec 27-Jan 1 may not be visible immediately following the upgrade on Jan. 1, but should be shortly. If you still don't see that mail by Jan. 2, please let us know via the Online Service Desk: http://www.fau.edu/helpdesk.
Calendar has changed - The look of the Calendar is changed but all your event calendar data should be the same.
