Essay Contest
WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The FAU Peace Studies Program and the University Center for Excellence in Writing are pleased to announce the winners in the undergraduate and graduate student categories for the essay contest in honor of the historic visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. Students selected receive a free ticket to the Dalai Lama’s public address and will read their essays during the Peaceway on the Breezeway event from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Boca Raton Campus Breezeway (the essays will be read between noon and 1 p.m. at Traditions Plaza). The students responded to the following question: How do you envision/imagine compassion as a pillar of world peace?
Undergraduate Level
Winner: Joe Hayes, “Stability: Giving Peace a Leg to Stand On”
Runner-Up: Pamela Rossow, “Promoting Peace”
Graduate Level
Winner: Jeannette Kamciyan, “Building Pillars of Peace: To Know Nothing is to Love Nothing”
Runner-Up: Daniel Hummel, “Cultivating Compassion as a Pillar of World Peace”

The FAU Peace Studies Program* and University Center for Excellence in Writing invite FAU undergraduate and graduate students to participate in the essay contest in honor of the historic visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. The contest committee will select top undergraduate and graduate essays; winners will receive a free ticket to the Dalai Lama’s public address, have their essays published on this website and read their essays during the Peaceway on the Breezeway Event held on Monday, Feb. 22.
Essay Question
The 14th Dalai Lama, Nobel Peace Laureate, titled his coming public address “Compassion as a Pillar of World Peace.” Please submit an essay that explores your vision of compassion as a tool for developing peaceful relations worldwide by responding to the following question:
How do you envision/imagine compassion as a pillar of world peace?
