Graduate Admission Requirements

For Master of Noprofit Management:

Applicants to the MNM program must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum average grade of “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) in the last 60 credits of their undergraduate program.  Applicants who fail to meet the above requirement may be considered for admission by exception.  Applicants may submit a petition including Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores and/or a 500-word writing sample, stating why obtaining the MNM is important to their career objectives. These admissions are made on a case-by-case basis after careful consideration of the petition, which may include special life and/or career circumstances described in an applicant’s petition.  Such petitions require the approval of the Master of Nonprofit Management Committee.

For Master of Public Administration:

Applicants to the MPA program must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum average grade of “B” (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) in the last 60 credits of their undergraduate program or a combined score of at least 1000 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). All applicants, regardless of undergraduate grades, must submit GRE scores that are no more than five years old. Applicants are encouraged to submit a 500-word writing sample, stating why obtaining the MPA is important to their career objectives. Final admission decision is based on GPA, GRE, and other relevant factors.

Applicants who fail to meet the above requirements may be considered for admission by exception. These admissions are made on a case-by-case basis after careful consideration of the reasons for doing so, which may include special life and/or career circumstances described in an applicant’s petition. Such petitions require the recommendation of the College Graduate Admissions and Petitions Committee and the approval of the school’s director.

Duplication and Recency of Credits

No credit counted as part of another degree may be counted toward the MNM or MPA. All work toward the MNM or MPA must be completed within ten years after initial registration in the program.

Transfer Credit

Acceptance of transfer credits from approved institutions depends on the relevance of the work to the MNM or MPA program. Request for transfer credits should be made at the time of admission and is limited to six credits in which the student earned a minimum grade of “B.”

Nondegree Credit

A maximum of 12 credits earned in the nondegree status may be accepted toward the MNM degree requirements provided the grades earned are “B” or better. A maximum of 15 credits may be accepted toward the MPA degree provided the grades earned are “B” or better.

Admission Requirements for International Students

A graduate of a college or university outside of the United States who has completed an academic program equivalent to an American bachelor’s degree may apply for admission to the MNM or MPA programs. International applicants are required to submit with their application an official transcript indicating the nature and scope of their academic training.

An international applicant for whom English is a second language is required to submit a score of 550 (CBT-213) or higher on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) before enrolling for courses. Applicants must write to Test of English as a Foreign Language, Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey, U.S.A., 08540, for details.

Academic Standing

Continuation in the MNM or MPA programs requires satisfactory progress toward degree completion. Evidence of such progress includes maintenance of a “B” average each semester. No grade below “C” will be counted toward the degree.

Students who fall below the “B” average will be placed on academic probation and failure to regain an overall cumulative “B” average within two successive semesters following the one in which the deficiency first occurred will result in dismissal.
