We are providing three field information sessions for students who plan on completing their field placement in Summer 2005. It is MANDATORY that all students attend one of these sessions prior to applying for field placement.

You are invited to participate in the Field Instructor's Supervisory Training sponsored by the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) School of Social Work. This training is required for all Field Instructors for the School of Social Work at FAU. We encourage you to attend if you have not previously attended the field instructor's training provided by FAU. We also honor training offered by Barry University, Florida International University, and Florida State University.

Please note that the training has been expanded to two full days (or 16 hours). The workshop is free to all field supervisors for FAU social work students. This training qualifies for the social work supervisor's training required for Florida licensure. 16 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be provided (provider # BAP 176).

This seminar provides the field instructors with an opportunity to meet the faculty at Florida Atlantic University as well as to learn about your role as a Field Instructor for FAU. This should also prove to be a good opportunity to network with other community social workers serving as field instructors for FAU.

Space is limited to 40 participants so reserve your space early. Your reservation will be confirmed and a parking pass issued once your RSVP has been received.

College Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Dr. Allan Barsky who was voted "Distinguished Teacher of the Year" for the College of Architecture, Urban, and Public Affairs at FAU.

Social Work left out of "Designated Degrees"

The Board of Governors for the public universities in Florida recently announced a list of Designated Degrees, which are to be given higher priority for future funding and expansion of programs. This could detrimentally affect BSW and MSW programs throughout Florida, since Social Work was not listed as a Designated Degree. For more information, see the attached letter to the Board of Governors. If you feel strongly about this issue, please write your legislative representatives or the Board of Governors to make your thoughts known.
