Guatemalan Project Fundraising Marathon
A Bachelor of Social Work student at FAU, Vicki Rosenthal, is running the San Diego Marathon (26.2 miles), www.rnrmarathon.com/Home, in honor of the Guatemalan Project, an organization that provides relief to people affected by hurricanes, land slides and other natural disasters. It promotes the betterment of communities that have been bypassed by the present economic systems. Unlike most charitable groups, the Guatemalan Project follows a specific principle: What is given will be earned (through revolving loans). Vicki states, “I feel this model should be shared and copied so I have created this fundraising venture. I am raising money to support this Loan Fund promoting awareness of the village, El Triunfo, and the concept of self-sustaining communities.” The website, www.Guatemalanproject.com, explains the program in detail.
Vicki's goal is to raise $5,000 and the deadline for donations is May 25, 2006. The race day is June 4th! You can donate online: www.Guatemalanproject.com, click How Can I Help, designate funds to Vicki’s fundraising. Specifics on donations or any questions, please call her at 954-383-7800.
