Student runs Marathon/benefits Guaemalan Project
Vicki Rosenthal will run the San Diego 26.3 miles marathon to benefit the Guatemalan Project.
A Bachelor of Social Work student at FAU, Vicki Rosenthal, is running the San Diego Marathon (26.2 miles), www.rnrmarathon.com/Home, in honor of the Guatemalan Project. This organization’s purpose is to provide relief to people affected by hurricanes, land slides and other natural disasters. It promotes the betterment of communities that have been bypassed by the present economic systems. Unlike most charitable groups, the Guatemalan Project follows a specific principle: What is given will be earned (through revolving loans). Vicki states, “I feel this model should be shared and copied so I have created this fundraising venture. I am raising money to support this Loan Fund promoting awareness of the village, El Triunfo, and the concept of self-sustaining communities.” The website, www.Guatemalanproject.com, explains the program in detail.
Her goal is to raise $5,000 and the deadline is May 25, 2006; race day is June 4th! You can donate online: The Project promotes work, it empowers the community, and it initiates small-sustainable business enterprises. You are encouraged to visit www.Guatemalanproject.com and donate by going to How Can I Help on the menu. You can also stop by any Fidelity Federal bank and deposit your donation in the Guatemalan Project’s account number 1525063. Finally, you may wish to send your check to: Guatemalan Project at 8 Caston Way, Boynton Beach, Fl 33426. Please designate funds to Vicki’s fundraising. For further questions, please call Vicki at 954-383-7800.
Be on the lookout for an article on Vicki’s efforts to be published within two weeks in the Broward County Sun Sentinel.
