Counseling Center's Role in Assisting Students
The Counseling Center here at FAU is caring, confidential and FREE to currently enrolled students. We recognize that college is exciting, but sometimes stressful. Many students encounter situations that are difficult to handle. All of our counselors have had training and experience specific to working with college students. Counseling can help you make sense of your problems and create new ways of looking at situations.
Some of the Counseling Services offered to students are individual, group and relationship counseling provided by psychologists, clinical social workers, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and supervised graduate student trainees; psychiatric medication services; alcohol and drug assessment and counseling; counseling in life skills and life choices; workshops and seminars in interpersonal and wellness areas.
The Counseling Center also reaches out to the campus community through its educational programming for students, staff, faculty, and other professionals. Presentations are available to any campus class, club, or other group at the request of a student, faculty, or staff member. The purpose of each workshop is to provide participants with self exploration, information, and resources.
The Counseling Center is located in the Student Services Building (2nd Floor - above the breezeway cafeteria). The hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Friday and 8:00a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday & Thursday. Appointments usually last approximately 50 minutes. To make appointments, visit or call the Counseling Center at 561-297-3540 and request a half-hour intake session with one of our counselors. At the first appointment, the counselor and student make decisions about what kind of help is needed and will be most beneficial. Students requiring immediate help can be seen on an emergency basis the same day.
