To current and prospective students,
I write on behalf of the Florida Atlantic University Planning Society Executive Board to welcome you to another year (or first) year of studies. When I sat down to write this letter I was reminded of a quote I read a couple of years ago by Benjamin Franklin, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” As education has always played an essential role in developing professionals in various fields, so too have organizations (such as the Planning Society) that encourage students to become involved in and experience their future fields. As you may know, the Planning Society is a student-run organization open to all FAU students that have a passion for urban design, community, urban and regional planning. The Planning Society is made up mostly of students from the School of Urban & Regional Planning, but students of all academic backgrounds are encouraged to participate. The Planning Society is an active group, organizing many events throughout the year that foster discussion and discovery.
A new year brings us many changes to the Planning Society. As you know, the School of Urban and Regional Planning has moved from Downtown Fort Lauderdale to our main campus in Boca Raton. With this change comes an opportunity to adapt both our school and the Planning Society. There are new opportunities now to cooperate with other departments, student organizations, and multiple other organizations throughout Boca Raton. The Planning Society is currently planning many activities, workshops, presentations, and community service opportunities for the coming fall semester. Activities include: park(ing) day, planning and design workshops, a lecture series, alumni connecting opportunities, waterway cleanups, as well as various other events. To become a member, sign up with our group through FAU’s Collegiate Link at http://fau.collegiatelink.net. Please view our calendar for exact dates and times as they become available. Also, like our Facebook page to stay up-to-date on activities and meetings.
I look forward to another wonderful year and I hope that you join us,
President of the Florida Atlantic Planning Society
