SURP students collaborate with Boca Raton's Green Living Advisory Board

Graduate students work with the city to design a Neighborhood Certification System

This fall, a group of graduate students from the School of Urban & Regional Planning worked with the Green Living Advisory Board of the City of Boca Raton to design a Neighborhood Certification System as a means to evaluate Boca Raton residents' environmental awareness and encourage green living. Discussions on how to motivate residents to consider sustainable practices in their daily lives took place in Dr. Diana Mitsova's Environmental Policy and Planning course offered over the fall semester. The collaboration has continued into the spring semester as the final document is still a work in progress. Nine Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) students and one Ph.D. student in Biology were involved in the discussions, the development and the design of the neighborhood certification document. These students are Brett Waldman, Peter Gies, Sean Sammon, Nicole Estevez, Eric Katz, Elliott O'Roark, Christopher Romano, Ryan Harding, Camille Swanson (MURP); and Ashley Campbell (a PhD student, Biological Sciences).
