"My goal is to create scholars—not only theatre scholars, scholars, people who think critically, whatever it is they turn to."

Faculty

The doctoral faculty has 1600 members based across the CUNY campuses, including approximately 125 appointed at The Graduate Center. Among the faculty are leading researchers in the humanities, social sciences, sciences, and engineering.

Our faculty members regularly receive prestigious honors and awards. Some recent examples include the Pulitzer Prize, the National Humanities Medal, the National Medal of Science, the Bancroft Prize, Grammy Awards, the George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism, Guggenheim Fellowships, the New York City Mayor's Award for Excellence in Science and Technology, the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers, and memberships in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences.

A five-year faculty recruitment drive has brought some of the country's most prominent academics and public intellectuals to The Graduate Center. They join the school's already renowned roster of scholars, thus ensuring a noteworthy foundation of intellectual capital for many years to come.
