Application Process

Becoming a Kent State University at Geauga and 
Regional Academic Center student is as easy as
1, 2, 3!

Step 1: Applying for Admissions
If you're interested in attending Kent State Geauga, you will need to submit:
  1. An online or paper application for admission.  Paper applications can be sent by mail by calling the Geauga Campus at 440-834-4187 or Regional Academic Center at 330-888-6400.
  2. A $30 non-refundable application fee 
  3. Any official transcripts from high school and college, if applicable.  
    ***Please Note: All application materials become the property of Kent State University and are not returnable or transferable. Please look under your student status to determine which application materials you must submit.
Whether you are applying to enroll at the KSU Geauga Campus or Regional Academic Center, prospective students need to submit all application materials to: Kent State University Geauga 14111 Claridon Troy Road Burton, Ohio 44021
Once we receive your application, our office will send you a letter confirming receipt of your application.  After acceptance to our campus, you may take COMPASS and ALEKS, if needed (Step 2).
Step 2: Placement Testing
To accurately place you in the appropriate college courses for Fall 2013, your advisor will use your assessment scores.  All assessments need to be completed prior to attending an EMPOWER program (Step 3).  Please read the information below to see if you are required to take any assessments.
New Freshman (includes any student who has never attended college)
·        If you do not have ACT scores, you will need to take the COMPASS assessment test for placement into English and Reading courses.  You will also need to take the ALEKS assessment for placement into Math courses.  To schedule your appointment to take COMPASS at the Burton location, please call 440-834-4187.  To schedule your appointment to take COMPASS at the Twinsburg location, please call 330-888-6400.
·        If you have ACT scores, those scores will be used to place you into English and Reading courses.   However, all students are required to take the ALEKS assessment for placement into Math courses.  
Transfer Students (includes any student who has previously attended college)
·        If you have not successfully passed (C or better) college-level English and/or Math, you will need to take COMPASS and/or ALEKS.  To schedule your appointment to take COMPASS at the Burton location, please call 440-834-4187.  To schedule your appointment to take COMPASS at the Twinsburg location, please call 330-888-6400. 
·         If you have successfully passed college-level English and Math, you will not need to take any assessments, unless your degree program requires it (i.e. Associate Degree in Nursing)

Step 3: (For Spring 2014 NEW FRESHMAN ) Register for EMPOWER
EMPOWER is our orientation, advising, and registration program.  We know that college presents many exciting opportunities and new experiences, so we designed this program to give you the tools and information that will put you on the road to success.

All NEW FRESHMAN are required to attend one EMPOWER program, in order to schedule Spring 2014 classes.  ***Transfer students will schedule individually with an advisor.  Call 440-834-4187-Burton/330-888-6400-Twinsburg to make an appointment.

***Summer 2014 Admits will be able to register on FlashLine or can call to make an appointment with an advisor to schedule classes (440-834-4187-Burton/330-888-6400-Twinsburg).  The RSVP for incoming Fall 2014 will be available towards the end of this year.  All Fall 2014 Admits will receive more information this Fall.

Although it is not required for admission to the University, all students are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Submitting this one form will make you eligible for federal and state grants and student loans. Students applying for campus-based scholarships are required to submit the FAFSA as well. FAFSA forms are available in the main office or by calling 440-834-3737. Click here to complete the FAFSA online.
