The GPC ESL Program offers courses at three proficiency levels (intermediate, high intermediate, and advanced) in three content areas.
Catalog Description of Courses
ENSL 0070 Students use intermediate level esl materials as they develop academic skills with an emphasis on reading and writing. (3 credit hours)
ENSL 0071 Students develop grammar skills at the intermediate level in the context of their own writing and by analyzing reading passages. Parts of speech, verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and basic sentence structure will be emphasized. (3 credit hours)
ENSL 0072 Speaking and listening skills are developed at the intermediate level. Listening comprehension, pronunciation, and presentation skills are emphasized. (3 credit hours)
ENSL 0080 Students use pre-college materials as they develop academic communication skills with an emphasis on reading and writing. They demonstrate understanding and respond critically to these materials in writing, including reports and compositions. (3 credit hours)
ENSL 0081 Students develop grammar skills in the context of writing compositions and analyzing reading passages. Punctuation, usage, and linguistic concerns for non-native English speakers are emphasized. (3 credit hours)
ENSL 0082 Speaking and listening skills are developed at the high intermediate level. Listening comprehension, note-taking, pronunciation, and presentation skills are emphasized. (3 credit hours)
ENSL 0090 Students use college-level materials as they develop the reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills they will use in their academic work. They demonstrate understanding and respond critically to these materials in speech and writing, including reports, essays, and a short documented paper. (6 credit hours)
ENSL 0091 Students review and refine organizational and editing skills and improve their application of grammar while writing essays. (3 credit hours)
