Students who enter Georgia Perimeter College (GPC) are guided into one of following programs:

  • Transfer Programs
  • Career and Technical Programs
  • Joint Programs

Depending on program objectives and the number of semesters required, a degree or certificate is awarded upon the successful completion of all required courses. While many of the programs of study are available on all campuses, each campus has programs that are not offered on other campuses. In addition, a program may not be offered because of insufficient enrollment. Students should inquire about particular program offerings before enrolling.  For more detailed Advising, Career Counseling, and Educational Support Services, go to Advising, Counseling, and Retention Services.

TRANSFER PROGRAMS

The college currently offers over 30 different transfer programs that are designed for students who plan to transfer to four-year colleges or universities upon the completion of two years of academic work at GPC. In addition to variations in general education requirements, senior colleges and universities vary the nature and number of professional course requirements which should be taken during the freshman and sophomore years. When planning a program with an adviser, students who have determined which profession or occupation they plan to enter should study the catalog of the institution to which they plan to transfer. Students who complete a transfer program are eligible for an Associate of Arts degree or an Associate of Science degree.

CAREER PROGRAMS

Career programs are programs outside of the core curriculum that are designed for students who wish to complete a college program which will prepare them to enter employment at a level of competence requiring more than a high school education, but less than a four-year college or university degree.  As such, they do not have A-E sections, but instead have sections that are specific to each program. Students who complete a career program or course will be eligible for an Associate of Science degree, an Associate of Applied Science degree, or a certificate. Career programs are specifically designed for students who wish to prepare for a career through a short, intensive program of specialized study and general education. While the emphasis in career education is on specialized offerings, each degree program includes a selection of courses from an approved core of general education. GPC currently offers career programs in dental hygiene, nursing, radiologic technology, fire management, library and information science technology, and sign language interpreting.

JOINT PROGRAMS

In joint programs, the student has to be admitted to both GPC and the other institution in order to graduate. Therefore, the requirements for sections A - F are shared by both institutions. GPC current offers a joint program in medical assisting with DeKalb Technical College.
