The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is the beginning level in the Emergency Medical Services ladder.
EMTs receive training in basic life support measures, including patient assessment, cardiac arrest skills, oxygen therapy, shock prevention, bandaging, splinting, spinal immobilization, and vehicular extrication.
The EMT program is a one-semester course. Three EMT courses are offered yearly in the Fall, Spring, and Summer-A semesters.

The application deadlines are:
FALL - June 1st
SPRING - November 1st
SUMMER - March 1st
The EMT course requires a serious time commitment from every student. The EMT core courses are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. CST all semester.
In addition, there is a 80-hour clinical requirement. Students are required to complete the Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVOC) and EMS Trauma Management courses during the semester in addition to the core training. EVOC and Trama Management are typically completed in two weekends.
The starting salaries for EMTs average $30,000 per year, approximately.
EMTs are most frequently employed by hospitals, ambulance services, fire department, and emergency clinics.
For EMTs in need of re-certification, an EMT Refresher course is available via online Distance Education.
