Honors Convocation

Each year Gulf Coast State College honors individuals who have demonstrated greatness.  Students are recognized each year at Honors Convocation while Gulf Coast employees are recognized at the End-of-the-Year Luncheon. 

Honors Convocation will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Amelia G. Tapper Center for the Arts on the Gulf Coast Campus.

If you wish to nominate a student for the Outstanding Leader Award, Outstanding Athlete Award, or a campus organization for the Outstanding Campus Organization Award, or if you wish to nominate a campus employee for Outstanding Professor, Outstanding Academic Adviser, Outstanding Club Adviser, Outstanding Career Employee or Outstanding Coordinating Council Employee, please submit the nomination form no later than March 20, 2012.

Bob McSpadden Outstanding Student Leader Award

1. A sophomore in good standing
2. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours
3. Carries a minimum 3.0 GPA
4. Exemplifies outstanding contributions to the college and community through leadership roles

Outstanding Campus Organization

1. Recognized campus organization
2. Has met successfully its stated purposes and objectives
3. Reflects credit upon its college and its community through volunteerism and campus projects
4. Demonstrates organizational unity
5. Contributes greatly to the development of its individual members
6. Has a designated representative that serves on SAB

Outstanding Athlete Award

1. Sophomore in good standing
2. Has shown not only athletic excellence, but academic ability
3. Embodies the ideals of good sportsmanship

Frank W. Eisman Outstanding Academic Advisor Award

1. Employee of GCSC for at least three years who currently serves as an academic advisor
2. Demonstrates enthusiasm in working with students regarding their career planning and class selections
3. Shows a sincere concern for the individual student
4. Actively contributes to the learning environment of GCSC

Robert R. Tinney Outstanding Professor Award

1. Member of the GCSC faculty for at least three years
2. Demonstrates a concern for the individual student
3. Clearly exhibits evidence of subject mastery
4. Prepares and delivers subject matter in an organized and understandable fashion
5. Demonstrates a willingness to work with students beyond classroom requirements

Outstanding Adjunct Instructor Award

1. Is not a full-time faculty member of GCSC
2. Demonstrates a concern for the individual student
3. Clearly exhibits evidence of subject mastery
4. Prepares and delivers subject matter in an organized and understandable fashion
5. Demonstrates a willingness to work with students beyond classroom requirements

1. Member of the employee group represented by the GCSC Coordinating Council
2. Employee of GCSC for at least three years
3. Represents the highest standards of professional conduct
4. Demonstrates a positive attitude and participates in activities that communicate the goals, vision, and mission of the college
5. Actively contributes to the learning environment of the college

Outstanding Career Employee Award

1. A member of the employee group represented by the GCSC Career Employee Council
2. Shows initiative (self-motivator; willingness to perform "other duties assigned," demonstrates a positive attitude)
3. Represents professional standards through quality of work and knowledge of job duties and responsibilities
4. Shows concern for student success by recognizing his/her role in a learning-centered environment by facilitating accurate communication channels and performing job with empathy

Rookie of the Year Award

1. Any full-time employee of GCSC for fewer than three years
2. Shows initiative
3. Demonstrates a positive attitude

Catherine Nix Outstanding Club Advisor Award

1. An employee of GCSC who serves as a designated advisor for a sanctioned GCSC club
2. Works with GCSC students and student groups outside the classroom
3. Shows sincere concern for the individual student and the student's role in life
4. Demonstrates ability to develop enthusiasm and leadership among students

Anne McCullen Outstanding Administrator Award

1. An employee of GCSC who serves at the director, chair, dean, vice-president, president level
2. Has been an employee of GCSC for at least three years
3. Actively contributes to the learning environment of the college

5. Participates in activities that further the goals, vision, and mission of the college
