Q. What are the benefits of migrating users from Hotmail to Outlook Live?

A. This migration from Live.edu to Outlook Live moves your users from Live to the February 2011 Service Update version of Outlook Live.

Q. Is there downtime for end users?

A. No, there is no downtime for end users. End users can continue to use Live.edu during the migration process. All end-user content stored in other Windows Live services (SkyDrive) is not impacted by this migration.

Q. Do users still have access to their Hotmail accounts during migration?

A. Users may continue to access their Live.edu accounts during the first portion of the migration. Outlook Live mailboxes are synchronized daily with their old live mailboxes. The last step will remove access to the old live mailboxes. After Step 3, they can view both mailboxes to validate that the content has been migrated to Outlook Live.

Q. Do users’ Logon ID and passwords change?

A. No. Logon IDs and Passwords remain the same.

Q. Will users’ sign on experience change?

A. The Outlook Live sign on experience looks slightly different, but remains essentially the same: the user enters their email name and password.

Q. Will users need to use a different link to access e-mail after the migration?

A. After the migration completes, the Mail link within the header of Windows Live services such as SkyDrive will automatically redirect users to Outlook Live. You do not have to make any specific changes to enable this. The link to the Outlook Live mail experience is http://www.outlook.com/my.gulfcoast.edu.

Q. How will I know when my mailbox is moved?

A. Email notifications will be sent to all students providing information about the changes and what actions they need to take.

A. How you transfer calendar data depends on whether or not you are also using Microsoft Outlook to view e-mail.

Q. When will the move take place?

A. The first step is already underway but will be invisible to students.
B. The changeover to the new Outlook Live mailbox will occur on January 14 - 16 of 2012.
