Partnership with Russia

Russian Students

Heartland Community College has a history of involvement with Bloomington-Normal's sister city in Vladimir, Russia. In 2000, HCC signed an Agreement on Cooperation for Exchange Programs with the Vladimir Branch of the Nizhegorodski Linguistic University.

The three-year agreement led to two groups visiting the United States. Both groups were 17 to 20-year-old students learning to be translators. Visiting the United States tested their conversational English skills and allowed them to directly experience American culture. Each group benefited from customized English courses, attending HCC courses, and field trips to Chicago, Springfield, McLean County Museum of History, Starved Rock State Park, and more. In addition, both groups also enjoyed shopping and football games.
