General Admissions Information
Nursing pre-requisite courses have been updated to reflect 2013 program requirements. Complete details are available below, but the summary of changes is as follows:
- BIO 120 is no longer accepted. Students must take BIO 213 and BIO 214 (8 credits)
- CHEM 120 (4 credits) must now be taken with the lab option.
The following course requirements will remain the same: ENGL 121, BIO 211, NURS 091, PSY 161, and PSY 262.

Deadline for admission is March 1, 2013.
Nursing applicants are required to attend one of the above information sessions in order to receive an application to apply. All sessions will be held in the Ray and Betty Stamm Health Science Nursing Wing, Room N-166.
Students must call to register for the information session at 815.599.3679. Those not registered will not be able to attend.

Certified Nurse Assistant
The Highland certified nurse assistant program curriculum will prepare students to take the state certificate exam for nursing assistants. Upon successful completion of the exam, students may work as nursing assistants. The CNA program provides a foundation for all other nursing programs at HCC. Students learn valuable direct care skills. This certification program is offered every semester, including the summer session, at the main campus in Freeport. It is also offered at off-campus sites.
Associate Degree in Nursing
This (ADN) degree prepares students to take the the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of the exam, the student is eligible to become licensed as a registered nurse (RN).
Practical Nursing
The practical nursing program prepares students to take the NCLEX-PN exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, the student is eligible to become licensed as a practical nurse (LPN). HCC, aware of the need for knowledgeable professionals in this popular career, offers this one-year program every fall.
